KP Federation Golf Cart Sub-Committee: Report
October 20, 2006
Chairman: Gene McElroy
My report this morning is based on an e-mail message I received from a Kings Point Resident,
who stated, "Good Website(referencing: Golf Cart Committee Website) Now if you can just get the Golf Cart Drivers to not allow
young Grandchildren to steer."
My friends, this brings back very sad memories of an accident that occurred, while I was Captain
of the Kissimmee River Vol. Fire Department.
We received a call that a car was in a ditch, on Camp Mack Road, about 18 miles east of Lake
Wales, Florida. When we arrived at the scene, we noted that the car had swerved across the road and ran, Head-on, into a
ditch. When we pulled the driver off the steering wheel; we got the shock of our lives: There crushed between this Grandfather
and the steering wheel was his Grandson. The child had been crushed to death.
We later learned that the grandson had been sitting in the grandfather's lap, and steering.
A squirrel ran in front of the car, the grandson gave a sharp left turn on the steering wheel, the grandfather could not regain
control, and the accident occurred.
I will never forget this incident. "Please do not do this Foolish Act." MAKING YOUR GRANDKIDS
HAPPY, CAN MAKE YOU REGRET IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
